I read several good books on WordPress as I experimented and build my first blog. They were good well written books, but time and again I found that had I not already known web design, I would have gotten lost. These books that claimed to be for the beginner left out important details assuming that the reader already knew them.
I have spent more than 30 years in the computer industry, built professional website, and taught computers in both the business and college environment. In many cases I was called upon to update, rewrite, or write from scratch the manuals I used in my training. I had never considered myself a write, but times change. I saw a need for a well written, simple to read, step-by-step guide for the true novice.
If you can use a word processer such as Microsoft Word you can build a functioning blog. If you can follow simple step-by-step instructions, you can build a full functioning professional business website.
The purpose of this book is to provide you, the reader, the basic skills needed to develop either a personal or professional website or blog. The book is not designed to teach programming skills in HTML or any other computer language.
This book will take the reader on a journey of discovery using WordPress one of the most popular web development tools available. The reader will be taken on a step by step ride taking an idea from its early stages to a finished web product. It is not necessary to read every part of this book, in fact depending on your goals, needs, and plans some sections may not apply at all.
My goal with writing this book is two parts. First; to provide a step by step guide to the novice on setting up, configuring, and promoting a website or blog. Second; is to introduce the more seasoned individual to the power and use of WordPress.
